Young Musicians Project
Young Musicians Project (YMP) is our core programme.
It brings young people aged 13-19 together weekly to make their own music, develop their skills and be part of a creative community, working with professional musicians and with each other.
Through participating in YMP, young people gain access to many other music opportunities, including gigging, recording and releasing their work through YMP Records , running events, and performing nationally as part of our Gig Exchange programme.
YMP is free to attend.
What happens
Write and develop your own music
Collaborate with others
Work with professional musicians
Build confidence and creative identity
Sessions are youth-led and shaped by the people who take part.
How it works
Open and accessible
YMP is free to attend and open to young people aged 13–19.
You don’t need your own instrument or equipment to take part—we can provide what you need to get started.
A creative home
YMP is a space young people return to each week.
Through regular sessions, they build relationships, develop their work over time and become part of a wider music community.
Taking music further
As young people develop their own work, YMP opens up opportunities to take it further.
Perform live, as part of group showcases and individual sets
Take part in gig exchanges with other music organisations
Get involved in one-off projects and collaborations
Record and release music through YMP Records
Access mentoring and shadowing opportunities
These opportunities grow out of the work happening in sessions—they’re part of an ongoing journey.
